Tree City USA
The City of Noblesville has continued to earn the designation of Tree City USA for the past 32 years. The city has held this designation longer than any other city in Hamilton County.
The Tree City USA program started in 1979. Only four cities in Indiana that have participated longer than Noblesville – Bloomington, Indianapolis, Elkhart and Angola. Noblesville received Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department; a tree-care ordinance; an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation, in partnership with the United States Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. For more information about the program, visit arborday.org/TreeCityUSA.
Earth Day/Arbor Fest
With Arbor Day set for the last Friday in April, the Noblesville Tree Board will mark the day and Noblesville’s Tree City USA status at noon on April 30, 2022 with a proclamation by the mayor’s office, along with a tree-planting initiative. Events include a #ShowUsYourTree social media contest and will be giving away seedlings and 3-gallon shade trees at the Riverwalk Trailhead parking lot west of 5th Street, next to Riverside Cemetery.
Starting at 10 a.m., the Tree Board will be giving away 3-gallon shade trees to the first 50 Noblesville residents who arrive and sign one of the Clear Choices Clean Water pledges in an effort to protect Indiana Waterways. For more information about Clear Choices Clean Water, visit https://indiana.clearchoicescleanwater.org/. 100 Shagbark Hickory seedlings will also be available for residents.
The City of Noblesville and Tree Board will hold a tree planting along the White River and volunteers are needed to help! Two volunteer shifts are available and registration links are below:
