The Planning Department handles all building permits, development plans, and subdivision plats. Permits for signs and demolitions are also available. The zoning ordinance and comprehensive master plan are administered here, and this is where the agendas for the Plan Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals meetings are prepared. This department also handles building inspections and floodplain information.

The Planning Department also works closely in conjunction with the City's Economic Development Department and Engineering Department.
