PLAY9

The City of Noblesville’s Forest Park Golf Course, 701 Cicero Road, has been selected as one of 28 sites for the United States Golf Association’s PLAY9 initiative – a concept to rally golfers and non-golfers alike of playing golf in less time.

“We are very excited for Forest Park Golf Course to be selected as the only Indiana course for the USGA PLAY9 initiative.  We look forward to a great summer, especially with programs like PLAY9, which encourages more golfers to come out and play,” said Gary Deakyne, PGA professional and director of golf for the City of Noblesville.

Since 2014, the PLAY9 initiative has focused around the concept of the 9-hole round as an important, yet simple, solution to address busy lifestyles and everyday lives. The USGA stated PLAY9 promotes a time-friendly option to engage with the game of golf as the length of playing time to a complete an 18-hole round is frequently cited as a barrier to the game’s participation.

In 2017, PLAY9 is deepening its commitment at the local level by working closely with State and Regional Golf Associations and a select number of clubs to intensify awareness of, and participation in, PLAY9. Forest Park was selected as the lone Indiana site.

Noblesville will host six PLAY9 dates on the ninth day of the month. PLAY9 rounds are $14 and include a golf cart. Due to the recent weather, this month’s date was moved to Friday, May 19. Other PLAY9 dates include:

  • Friday, June 9
  • Sunday, July 9
  • Wednesday, August 9
  • Saturday, September 9
  • Monday, October 9.

“Everyone who participates on a PLAY9 day will be entered into a raffle. Each month we will have a drawing for a free nine holes at Forest Park. At the end of the year, a drawing will be held with all of the remaining names for a 2018 season pass of free rounds at Forest Park,” said Deakyne. “The course also will have a different atmosphere with blue PLAY9 flags and handouts.”

Built in 1927, Forest Park is Hamilton County’s oldest golf course. The 9-hole course features postage stamp greens, manicured fairways, and challenging elevated tees and greens. The golf course is free of water hazards, which makes it enjoyable and playable for novice golfers, but its green contours make it a challenge for the advanced players as well.
