Who Must Appear

There are certain charges for which you must appear in Court: some of these are listed below and/or any offense for which you are told to personally appear by the arresting officer or court personnel.
  • Child Restraint: Age 3 and under
  • Dog Running at Large/Animal Violations
  • Driving While Suspended
    • If you are charged with a Driving While Suspended Infraction, you MUST APPEAR IN COURT even if you are able to resolve your reason for suspension, you are still required to appear on your Initial Hearing date to resolve. The Initial Hearing date can be located at the bottom of your ticket. You may bring any paperwork/documents with you to Court.
    • A failure to appear for your Driving While Suspended Infraction may result in a license suspension certified to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the judge may issue a default judgment.
    • If you are unable to make your Initial Hearing date but would like to reschedule, please contact the Court before your original Initial Hearing date.
  • Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle
  • Illegal handicapped parking
  • No Insurance Violation
  • Passing School Bus while loading or unloading
  • Probationary/Learner's Permit Violation
  • Speeding in a School Zone
  • Watercraft/Boating Violation
  • Worksite Violations (2nd Offense)
  • All other moving violations please contact the Court
Note:  All persons under 18 years of age MUST APPEAR in Court with a parent or guardian (except for seatbelt violations).
 

Appearing in Court:

  • If your charge(s) is not a Must Appear and you still want to appear in open Court, you may still do so.  Your Court date is your Initial Hearing date and can be located at the bottom of your ticket.  If you are unable to appear on your scheduled date, you may contact the Court to reschedule your Initial Hearing Date at (317) 776-6344.
  • Initial Hearings are held only on Tuesdays, there are two sessions: Morning session begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Afternoon session begins at 1:00 p.m.

Note: The appearance date on the bottom of your ticket is for your Initial Hearing only.  The officer who issued the ticket is NOT required to be present for your Initial Hearing.
