Accreditation

Law Enforcement Accreditation is a special status that is accorded to a law enforcement agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®)

As a not-for-profit, multi-national, public safety accrediting body, CALEA is dedicated to the development and maintenance of critical law enforcement standards. These constitutionally grounded and portable set of standards are structured to complement the needs of the public, while also providing a foundational blueprint to support public safety agencies in the voluntary pursuit of excellence through the process of accreditation.

Within this model, law enforcement standards are applied to develop sound policies, make data-driven decisions, and implement appropriate technologies, equipment, and training. CALEA believesStandards Build TRUST and Standards are ACTION, and these standards serve as tools for continuous organizational improvement, progressiveness, accountability, and adherence to the constitutionally protected rights of those served.

The Noblesville Police Department received its initial accreditation award in 2015. CALEA accreditation is a four-year process which entails annual reporting and offsite electronic reviews. Additionally, during the fourth year of the accreditation cycle CALEA conducts a site-based visit to observe and assess the actual day-to-day processes and procedures of the department.

Lieutenant Kinman is responsible for maintaining our accreditation. Lt. Kinman can be contacted at (317) 776-6340 or at [email protected] .

As part of the current process, an Accreditation Public Comment Portal has been implemented. The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding our agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide participating agencies with information to support continuous improvement and to foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

IMPORTANT:
CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes.
Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgment of submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.

Training

Our training coordinator, Sgt. Corey Everhart, is responsible for ensuring that our 100+ officers meet or exceed state training requirements by attending the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as well as yearly training mandated by the State of Indiana.  The training officer also coordinates classes hosted by the Noblesville Police Department in our training center.  Officers who have specific job tasks or respond to specialized types of incidents receive specific training in their particular area and typically require task-specific training.  The training officer ensures that all members of the Noblesville Police Department receive training that meets or exceeds the standards required by all boards, commissions, associations, and certifications that department members hold.  Sgt. Everhart can be contacted at (317) 776-6340 or by e-mailing [email protected].
